Trying Isn't Committing

Today, as I was writing my morning pages, I started writing about some old, familiar things.

You know, stuff I’ve written about time and time again.

Things I’ve always intended to do but fell short in completing. And other things like my passion project (or lack thereof), eating well consistently, moving my body consistently, and working on my business consistently.

I’ve got a lot of old stories that I’ve been telling myself that simply aren’t true. Here are a few. Maybe you can relate…

  • I don’t finish what I start. I don’t follow through with my intentions.

  • I struggle with exercise.

  • I’m dependent on my husband. Without him I couldn’t make it on my own.

See what I mean? Total BS! I know this stuff isn’t true, but I’ve been believing it for so long it’s hard to believe otherwise.

Through my writing I realized that I’m getting sick of hearing my own damn stories. I’ve been writing about the same shit for years!

Don’t get me wrong.

I’ve made a crap ton of progress since I began the journey back to myself years ago. It may not be progress that you can see on the outside, but inside I’m totally winning!! Trust me!

I got curious about WHY I’m still wishing for the same things!

Then came a light bulb moment…I’m not where I want to be because I’ve been TRYING!

That’s right. All the things I’ve wanted to change about myself and the way I’m showing up in the world…I’ve TRIED to do them.

It’s a word I use a lot.

I don’t know about you, but I most often use the word “try” when I’m looking for a way out.

I try to make it to the party.

I try to exercise consistently.

I try to eat well most the time.

I try to do something creative everyday for 30 days.

I try to be seen in my business.

Trying gets me off the hook when it doesn’t happen… “Well, I tried to make it happen, but I got busy.”

“I tried to eat well, but I was sooo tempted by my mom’s homemade cookies.”

Here’s the thing. TRYING isn’t COMMITTING!

Trying is saying, “If I feel like it.”

“If I think of it.”

“I’ll do it once or twice to see how it goes.”

There’s a huge difference in trying and DECIDING.

When we really decide to commit to something, we put it on our calendar. We set reminders. We make sure we keep it in the forefront of our minds.

I’ve been WAY too committed to believing old stories and lies about myself.

Believing these old thoughts isn’t getting me even one step closer to being the woman I want to be.

It’s time to get rid of old thoughts and commit to DOING what needs to be done to be the woman I want to be!

Now, as a coach, all of this is a little hard to admit. I’m supposed to have all my shit together, right?

Uh, no. I’m human just like everyone else.

The fact that I’ve gone through my own messes and come out on the other side makes me a better coach.

My dear friend and mentor, Susan Hyatt, taught me, “What you think is wrong with you is what’s right with you. It’s your superpower.”

And my sweet friend, Lara Casey, taught me, “Your mess is your message.”

In that case, girllll, I’ve got some messages for you!

So why am I telling you all this?

I want to commit to myself and commit to becoming the woman I want to be. I want to take my life up a notch. It will be a journey, for sure, and I want to share it with you.

I know I’m not the only one who has old stories she’s been believing for too long.

I want you to know that you’re not alone.

I want you to know that I get your struggles because I have them, too.

I want to share the tools, information, resources, and inspiration I’ve learned from coaching with you so you can begin your own journey and commitment to yourself.

And that’s it, isn’t it? We are all on a journey. Let’s do it together! It might not be pretty from time to time, but I promise it’ll be fun!

I’ll be sharing this on my blog, here in my newsletter and on social media, but most of the intimate sharing will be in my new Facebook group, Live Your Legacy NOW.

I’m super excited to create a community around all of us committing to ourselves and committing to creating a life that’s fulfilling and full of JOY.  Click here to join the fun!
